Missionaries Jacob and Lisa Pursley

Jacob and Lisa live in Yerevan, Armenia, with their children, Dow and Annalee. They have lived and ministered in the Middle East since 2002, having spent most of those years in Turkey, raising up native church planters to both the Turks and Kurds.

Now that they are in Armenia, they are actively training and sending short-term and long-term missionaries into other Middle Eastern nations that are closed to the Gospel. These teams have quickly seen conversions and baptisms, something may missionaries to the Muslim world wait ten or more years to experience. The Armenian missionaries have been well received by the Muslim population while western missionaries have been targeted, deported or pulled off the field by their sending organizations for safety an security reasons.

Jacob and Lisa’s ministry is now praying about and exploring the possibility of expanding their reach into the majority Muslim Caucasus region of Russia.

More about Jacob and Lisa

Jacob and Lisa were motivated to go to Turkey by the fact that it is the largest unreached country in the world. Among 80 million people, there are an estimated 5,000 Christians. The lack of Christian witness, Bibles, Christian materials and Christian churches there became a burden for them that has not lifted. They now reach the Muslim Turks from Armenia.

About Armenia

Armenia is located in the South Caucasus region and is bordered on the north by Georgia, east by Azerbaijan, south by Iran and southwest and west by Turkey.

Over 93% of Armenians belong to the Armenian Apostolic Church, a form of Oriental Orthodoxy that is a very ritualistic conservative church, roughly comparable to the Coptic and Syriac Churches. The Armenian Evangelical Church has a sizable and favorable presence among the Armenians with several thousand members throughout the country. Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion, an event traditionally traced back to 301 AD.
