James and Genie Byrd

James and Genie will celebrate 60 years of marriage on June 8, 2023. They have 3 children, 11 grandchildren (2 more are on the way from Haiti by way of adoption!), and 4 great-grandchildren.

James is part of 5 generations of extraordinary ministers and spent early ministry years as youth pastor and evangelist. His lifelong love for God’s work in the world took him to four continents and 57 countries making significant contributions as a beloved speaker, mentor and ministry trainer, and resourcing frontline facilities and benevolence. James served Mount Paran North for many years as Administrative Pastor and Senior Adult Pastor.

Genie made her own indelible marks, living a purpose-filled life partnering with her husband. Oldest daughter of career missionary parents, she served with distinction her cherished family – first mother, pastor’s wife, accomplished musician, creator and director of local church children’s musicals, public school teacher, counselor, principal for 34 years, author of 5 children’s books, conference speaker, civic volunteer, confidante, and trusted friend to many.

We are excited to welcome James and Genie Byrd back to North and know you will be encouraged and inspired by their many years of experience doing life and ministry together.

So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Therefore what God has joined together,
let no one separate.

Matthew 19:6
